Structure

Sub-sections:

  • A lot of overlap; includes Kings, Dynasties, History of church, Literature, provinces, etc.
  • Regions, Woredas, Cities, lakes, Mountains, ecology, etc.; some overlap w/History regarding pre-1994 provinces.
  • Includes music, food, dress, traditions, ethnicity; some overlaps with history (religion, literature, etc.)

Hierarchy definition

No classification of this project has been defined.

Goals

  1. To bring up every /Key article to Good, and then Featured article status.
  2. To create a /Transliteration system to be used for all articles concerning Ethiopia (and Eritrea) and a common way of adding the Ge'ez script version (when applicable) and transliteration to an article.

Projects

  1. Improve Key articles:
    1. Ethiopia (obviously)
    2. Languages of Ethiopia (expand to more than a list - i.e. add some text)
    3. People of Ethiopia (i.e. description of ethnicities & ethnic interactions over the centuries - also some genetics and origins discussion)
    4. Geography of Ethiopia (already substantial - some copy-editing can get it to GA or even FA)
    5. Politics of Ethiopia (can discuss historically, from Fetha Negest (also an important and potential GA) to 1931 constitution, centralization, issues w/ feudalism & land reform, up to ethnic federalism today - a lot to talk about)
    6. History of Ethiopia (needs to be trimmed down and made into a more flowing narrative - Solomonic, Gondarine & modern sections need some expansion).
    7. Kingdom of Aksum (section into history, archaeology, architecture, culture, etc. & expand a lot)
    8. Invasion of Ahmed Gragn
    9. Ethiopian Civil War (late 1970s-1994) (barely a stub)
    10. 1984 - 1985 famine in Ethiopia
    11. Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia
    12. Amharic language (+images and expand grammar)
    13. Tigrinya language (+images split off grammar section and summarize)
    14. Oromo migrations (I've created a skeleton at User:Yom/Oromo migrations to be filled soon)
    15. Battle of Adowa (a lot of background & specific military data to be incorporated);
  2. Less important ones:
    1. Zagwe dynasty
    2. Sabaean invasion hypothesis (theory?)
    3. Zemene Mesafint – split from History of Ethiopia, copy-edit & expand
    4. Solomonic dynasty
    5. Environmental issues in Ethiopia

Tasks

  1. *More Urgent* - we need to develop a page Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Ethiopia-related articles) to address all the various conventions in Ethiopian names, father's names, titles, etc., in the manner of Wikipedia:Manual of Style (China-related articles), Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Indic-related articles), Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Ireland-related articles), Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Islam-related articles), Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Japan-related articles), and Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Korea-related articles)
You're right Feqade/Codex. Please make the appropriate subsection when you can (I'll try to get to it if not) so that we can begin discussion. — ዮም (Yom) | contribsTalkE 06:43, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
I had a spare moment, so I created the page, borrowing from some of the suggestions above. Feel free to edit the stuffings out of it. -- llywrch 18:42, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Adopt an article

Similar to the Collaboration of the week, but on a smaller scale, you might want to "adopt" an article. This would involve doing the research, writing, and picture-taking (if possible) for either a non-existent article or a stub. Of course, everyone else can still edit an adopted article, and you can work on other things too, but the idea is to find a focus for a while, to try and build up the number of quality articles the Project has produced.
