Waingels College (previously Waingels Copse School) is a co-educational comprehensive secondary school located in Woodley, Reading, Berkshire, England. It has a population of 1,500 students but may rise due to overcrowding in the area and an appeals process which now has to take place. Over 400 people apply for entry annually, though there are only 270 places available (a rise from 240 in previous years). The school has specialist status as a Mathematics and Computing College.

Refurbishment

The school recently won a grant of £30 million to perform a full school re-build as most of its buildings are only temporary classrooms.

Learning communities

In September 2006 the school was split into six main learning communities (or houses). Each learning community has its own colour and role model:

Sports Day History

This years sport day, held at Palmer Park on July 11th, was won by Da Vinci. Last years winners were Brunel. These two teams are actually paired houses, and leader Mr Wood (a PE teacher) has spoken of his proudness of both teams. The 2008 Sports Day saw Rowling come in at second place, followed by a tie for third. Turing lost the event, but not without a fight. Perhaps the best part of the day was the Teacher's Relay - an event that saw 24 the teaching staff race for their house. Although not everyone took part in Sports Day, everybody enjoyed some aspect of the day. Well done, Waingels!

Sporting achievements

The P.E. department at Waingels encourages students to take part in many extracurricular sporting activities such as football. Their main rival is The Bulmershe School, located on the other side of Woodley, as it is a specialist Sports College.

yeah, but we still beat bulmershe at EVERYTHING!
