Sabzevar is a city in the Razavi Khorasan province in northeastern Iran.

It is approximately 220 kilometres west of Mashad, the provincial capital. This city in the old age was called Beihagh (Beyhaq). This name backs to an ancient city of Persia with a great culture.

In 2005 it had an estimated population of 214,165 [1]. Sabzevar is the commercial center for an agricultural region producting grapes and raisins. There is some small-scale industry, for food processing, cooperware and electric motors. Through the old bazaar of Sabzevar fresh, dried, and preserved fruits and vegetables are exported. Sabzevar is connected to Tehran and Mashhad by road; However, it has an airport (Sabzevar Airport) with domestic flights [1].

Islamic Azad University of Sabzevar (IAUS) was founded in 1985 in Sabzevar, the second largest city in the Khorasan province in the north east of Iran. Located at the center of a largely agricultural region, Sabzevar has a population of around two hundred thousands, mainly engaged in commerce and small industry. It has a rich cultural tradition boasting among its notables the great 11th century historian Beihaghi and the 19th century philosopher Haji Sabzevari[2]

Old Monuments

Mil-e Khosrow Gerd or the brick tower of king khosrw is well-known as a highest brick tower in the city. Masjed Jameh of Friday mosque with its two long Minaret or brick tower is the most famous mosque in the city. What is interesting with this two long brick tower is that like two brick tower in Esfahan known as Menar jonban or shaking minaret , if someone shake one of these two minaret the other one moves too.
