(Redirected from
Llewelyn)
The Welsh name Llywelyn (pronounced [ɬəˈwɛlɪn], or often [luːˈɛlɪn] by non-Welsh-speakers) most likely derives from Old British Lugubelenus, a compound word formed from the names of the Celtic gods Lug or Lugh and Belenus. It is sometimes spelt Llywellyn, Llewelyn or Llewellyn (the doubling of the second -l- is by analogy; the name is never pronounced IPA: [ɬəw'ɛɬɪn]).
