Information Systems Research is published by the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS), and was recently selected as one of the top 12 professional /academic journals by BusinessWeek. Along with Management Information Systems Quarterly, Information Systems Research is widely regarded by IS/IT researchers as one of the two most prestigious journals in the information systems discipline.[2][3]
Information Systems Research was first published in 1990, with online ISSN: 1526-5536 and print ISSN: 1047-7047.
Editor
The current Editor-in-Chief of Information Systems Research is Vallabh Sambamurthy from Michigan State University. The editor-in-chief is accompanied by 18 senior editors along with 51 associated editors from various universities and businesses across the globe.
Information Systems Research’s (ISR) goal is to advance peoples knowledge about the efficient and effective utilization of information technology through the way of individuals, organizations, society, and nations for the improvement of economic and social welfare. The journal welcomes high quality theoretical, empirical, design, and analytical work dealing with different levels of analysis (i.e., individuals, groups, firms, networks, societies, and nations). As an academic journal, Information Systems Research includes a wide variety of theories in areas such as cognitive psychology, economics, computer science, operations research, design science, organization theory, organization behavior, sociology, and strategic management.
The journal seeks diverse methods that will help stimulate interests for different approaches. At the heart of the journal are research articles that seek to break new grounds, which could lead to generating substantive insights on important phenomena. ISR also publishes Research Notes, which were established to help promote dialog among the information systems community by incrementally extending well-research occurrences or by providing methodological commentaries. ISR Awards for 2007
In 2007, Information Systems Research initiated awards for the best published paper and outstanding performances by associate editors and reviewers. In order to receive an award one must obtain a nomination from their board member and finalized by the Editor-in-Chief. The awards were given out in Montreal, Canada at the International Conference on Information Systems in December, 2007.
