Hé is a Product of the Feyenoord Academy who had recent trials Feyenoord and K.V. Mechelen in summer 2008, in November 2008 wons the One Touch best player award [1].
He is currently nursing a hamstring injury and will begin training with his club Gomoa Fetteh Feyenoord. The left-back has been unattached since his one-year loan deal with local side Asante Kotoko ended in May this year[2], in November was also rumoured with a return to Asante Kotoko[3]. Afful has promised to settle with an European side hopeful during the January transfer window.
The Black Stars’ defender is set to embark on another search for a club abroad after an unsuccessful stint in Sweden last month. The 21-year-old played in some friendly matches for Helsingborgs IF but could not firm up a deal, after failing to land a deal in Norway. [4].
Afful, the regular Ghana left back and voted the best defender on the domestic scene recently, has had a hard time convincing clubs in not so rated leagues of Holland, Belgium and Norway that he is ripe for the European stage.
He was in Sweden and would bring good fortunes. He trained for the first time with Helsingborg on 14 November and was called "a good player who has an interesting eye for the game" by the club's coach Bo Nilsson.
But the player is unlikely to be swayed by the praise after hearing them too often and being told in the end there is no contract.
With the domestic transfer window closed for the start of the Ghana League season on November 23, Afful knows his best chance of playing regularly and maintaining his Black Stars place will be to find a club in Europe in the January transfer window.
He plays at international level for his native Ghana and was part of the squad for the 2008 African Cup of Nations which was hosted on his home soil. His debut match was against the Ivory Coast in the 2008 26MTN African Cup of nations hosted by Ghana. His first full match was in Ghana's 2-1 loss to Mexico on Wednesday March 26th 2008. He played as left fullback in this match.
