Cuauhtémoc is one of the 16 delegaciones (boroughs) of the Mexican Federal District. It was formed in 1970 when the former subdivision of Mexico City was split up; the delegaciones of Miguel Hidalgo, Benito Juárez, and Venustiano Carranza also resulted from this split.

The borough is named after Cuauhtémoc, the last independent Aztec ruler of Tenochtitlán.

Geography & Climate

Cuauhtemoc has the warmest and among the driest of Valley of Mexico microclimates thanks to its low altitude and the densest urban development of the metropolitan area. It is the regional downtown, historic, economic, and cultural center.
