Carl Johan Arthur Bernadotte, Count of Wisborg, formerly Prince Carl Johan Arthur of Sweden, Duke of Dalarna (born Stockholm, 31 October 1916), is the fifth and youngest child, and the fourth son, of King Gustaf VI Adolf of Sweden and Princess Margaret of Connaught.

Marriages

Carl Johan lost his succession rights and renounced all titles in 1946 when he married in New York City, New York on 19 February a woman who was not of equal rank (i.e. not of a sovereign house), Elin Kerstin Margaretha Wijkmark (Stockholm, 4 October 1910 - Kungsberga, 11 September 1987), daughter of Henning Wijkmark and wife Elin Larsson.

In Copenhagen on 29 September 1988 he married Countess Gunnilla Marianne Lindberg Wachtmeister af Johannishus (Ag Lund, 12 May 1923), daughter of Nils Grefve Wachtmeister af Johannishus and wife Märta Friherrinnan de Geer af Leufsta. As of October 2, 2007 he is the last surviving great-grandchild of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom.

Title

Carl Johan was created Count of Wisborg by Charlotte, Grand Duchess of Luxembourg on 2 July 1951.

Count Carl Johan celebrated his 90th birthday on 31 October 2006. He is the last surviving great-grandchild of the Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom since the death of Princess Katherine of Greece and Denmark. Should he live until 29 June 2010, he will surpass his elder brother Sigvard as the longest lived of Queen Victoria's male descendants, at 94 years, 7 months and 29 days.

His father and two of his elder siblings (Sigvard and Ingrid) both lived to reach or surpass 90 years of age, while another brother, Bertil, lived to be 84. His maternal grandfather, Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn, lived to be 91, while his paternal grandfather, King Gustav V of Sweden lived to be 92.

Adopted children

Carl Johan has no biological children, but he has two adopted children:

• Monica Kristina Margaretha Bernadotte (b. 5 March 1948, adopted in 1951). Married on 16 January 1976 and divorced in 1997 Johan Peder Grefve Bonde af Björnö (b. Göteborg, Sweden, 5 May 1950). They have three children:
  • Ebba Kristina Grefvinnan Bonde af Björnö (b. 20 October 1980)
  • Marianne Cecilia Grefvinnan Bonde af Björnö (b. 29 September 1982)
  • Carl Johan Peder Grefve Bonde af Björnö (b. 14 April 1984)
• Christian Carl Henning Bernadotte (b. 3 December 1949, adopted in 1950). Married on 13 September 1980 Marianne Jenny (b. Zurich, 31 January 1958), daughter of Jacques Jenny and wife Caroline Yvonne Venter. They have three children:
  • Christina Margaretha Sophie Bernadotte (b. Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, 28 May 1983)
  • Richard Carl Jakob Bernadotte (b. Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, 8 June 1985)
  • Philip Carl William Bernadotte (b. Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia, 18 May 1988)
