Acabion concept car

The Acabion concept car is a two-seat vehicle with a drop-shaped body. The passenger is placed behind the driver. Power is provided by a hybrid drive system mounted behind the passenger compartment, incorporating a turbocharged 1.3-liter motor as well as a small electric motor for low speed (below 65 km/h (40 mph)) operations. Under normal conditions the Acabion concept drives on its two main wheels like a motorcycle, but at low speeds or if balance is lost at high speeds the two small side wheels are designed to lower themselves automatically to aid stability.

Future development of Acabion will focus on full-electric drive.

Awards

The Acabion electric-drive concept was awarded with the German future-award 2008 as the best prototype of the year.(Zukunftsaward, Frankfurt Main, www.zukunftsinstitut.de).

Performance

The designers claim that the GTBO concept car weighs 360 kg (794 lb) and has a 750 horsepower (560 kW) engine, resulting in a power to weight ratio of 2,100 horsepower (1,600 kW) per ton.
