• 26 January - Soudi monarch King Abdullah is chief guest at Republic Day parade in New Delhi.
• 2 March-5 March - President of the United States, George W. Bush visits India. USA signs landmark nuclear deal with India pending approval from the US Congress and Indian Parliament.
• 7 March - Terrorist attack in Varanasi kills at least 15 people and leaves more than 50 injured.
• 10 April - Fire at Brand India Fair at Meerut Victoria Park in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, kills 100.
• May - Medical doctors started strike against central government decision on reservation for OBC (other backward classes) in Medical Institution.
• 6 July - The Nathula Pass between India and China, sealed during the Sino-Indian War, re-opens for trade after 44 years.
• 11 July - A series of coordinated bomb attacks strikes several commuter trains in Mumbai, India during evening rush hour.
• 20 November - A suspected terrorist attack kills five people on a train in a remote area of West Bengal.
